Pair Spectacular BIG EXOTIC 1953 Continental Art Plaster Lamps w 2-tiered Shades
1953 Continental Art Company Plaster Lamps. W/ original 2-tiered Fiberglass Shades. Fab Mid-Century Modern Decor. Offering this spectacular pair of 1953 Continental Art Company plaster table lamps. Each lamp weighs approx. 13 pounds – they’re BIG and HEAVY, standing 33″ tall from the base to the top of the 3″ matching finials (almost 3 feet). They each include their original 2-tiered fiberglass shade – the bottom of each shade measures 18″ in diameter, the top measures 15″ in diameter, and they’re 9 high. Each base measures approx. 11′ wide x 6 deep and has felt on the bottom. The predominant color is deep forest green with bright green tropical flowers for contrast. I love the organic floriform design. They are both in remarkably wonderful condition for their age with only minor paint loss that does not detract… As you can see they display beautifully! The owners were John Matanky, the son of Russian immigrants, and three Italian nationals. Plaster lamps were made from molds of sculptures by Italian designers. Production began in 1948 or 1949 and ended in 1962. Both the plaster lamp bases and their unique lamp shades were made in house. It would be great if those artistic entrepreneurs from the 1940s knew how much their work is still loved and appreciated 70 years later! These have been in our personal collection for several decades. Please contact me if you have any questions or want additional photos. I describe all items honestly and to the best of my ability. My goal is to have happy, repeat customers. Thank you for your interest and good luck! They will be packed with great care to assure safe arrival. You can expect to receive two large boxes… One containing the bases and the other for the shades. All of my items come from a smoke free home.
